PHOTOGRAPHER JØRN STJERNEKLAR HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS TIMBUKTU AWARD

The "Timbuktu-Prisen" is an award for critical journalism done in less developed countries.

The nominees for 2011 are in random order:

1. Journalist and photographer Jørn Stjerneklar

2. Journalist Mads Ellesøe

3. Journalist Peter Rasmussen


Jørn Stjerneklar was also nominated in 2009 and 2010. Last year journalist Thomas Aue Sobol got the prize.

* Stjerneklar has worked on how the Africans are stereotyped in western media and made several radio and TV documentaries from the continent in 2010/11.

* Ellesøe has made a documentary from West Sahara about overfishing and exposed how a Danish company has made money on an arms deal in Eritrea.

* Rasmussen has exposed how Danish companies mistreats workers in the 3. World.


The prize is 100.000 Danish Kroner (equal to 19.500 USD). It was given for the first time in 2009.

The Timbuktu-prize cannot be applied for. Candidates must be proposed.

The jury are representatives from The Danish Union of Journalists, The Nairobi Club and Timbuktu-fonden.

The award ceremony will be on Tuesday the 21st of June 2011 at 4pm to 5.30pm at Union of Danish Journalist's building, Gl.Strand, Copenhagen.
